Accommodation: Where You Sleep

Budget Camps Budget safari camps typically offer permanent canvas tents on raised platforms with basic beds (think foam mattress, mosquito net, no frills). Bathrooms may be shared — a communal ablution block with bucket showers that camp staff heat for you.

There's nothing wrong with budget camping if you're the type who's out on game drives all day and just needs somewhere clean to crash. The wildlife doesn't care what you're paying.

Mid-Range Camps This is where things get comfortable. En-suite canvas tents with proper beds (spring mattresses, quality linens), private hot-water showers, flush toilets, and usually a small verandah. Luxury Guides Top-tier camps employ specialist naturalists — guides with 10–20+ years of experience, deep knowledge of animal behavior, botany, ornithology, and ecology. They don't just find you a lion; they explain the pride dynamics, predict the hunt, and position the vehicle for the best photographic angles.

Private vehicles (maximum 4 guests) mean you control the schedule. Want to skip the hippo pool and spend two more hours with the cheetah? Done. Want to leave camp at 5:30 AM for first light? No problem.
