Welcome to the Serengeti

Legend has it that the word Serengeti emanates from the people who have occupied this pristine land for aeons–the Maasai.  Roughly translated, it means the endless plains, or  “the place where the land runs on forever”. Proclaimed in 1952, and covering 14,763 km2 (5,700 sq mi) – an area larger than Connecticut or Montenegro – in the eastern Mara Region of northern Tanzania, the Serengeti National Park is revered by nature-lovers worldwide as one of the most populous wildlife destinations.

SEE AND DO

What to do in Acacia Migration Camp

With a near-constant parade of wildlife passing nearby to the camp, your senses will be awash with the sights, sounds and scents of Africa.  Between the exciting wildlife activities, the setting is ideal for rest and relaxation

The Great Wildebeest Migration

With up to 2-million herbivores on the move, followed by hungry predators, there is never a dull moment during the migration season.  The tension and drama is at its peak as the herd pauses before rushing headlong across swollen rivers, only to have to escape predators lying in wait.  This is truly one of the greatest wildlife spectacles on Earth.

ACTIVITIES

Explore and have fun at the Serengeti.

An African Safari is all about viewing wildlife in its natural habitat – but it wouldn’t be complete without social occasions in scenic settings to share the highlights of your adventure.

Setting out in the cool hours of the morning and late afternoon, you will search for wildlife in a customized 4×4 safari vehicle, in the company of an experienced guide.

Balloon Safari

Taking off at dawn when conditions are best, you will drift quietly above the wildlife dotted on the plains below, for a unique perspective of the vastness of the migrating herd.

Bonfire

The perfect way to end a day on safari; take a drink to the bonfire and share tales of the days’ sightings, with an array of wildlife calling from the darkness.

Sundowner

Take a well-earned drinks break at a scenic location, marveling at the colors of the setting sun as night-time approaches.  Drink a toast to good health and  many happy memories.
